Tesla CEO, Elon Musk says he will move the company’s headquarters out of California and will file a lawsuit against Alameda County over coronavirus shutdown rules.
The electric vehicle entrepreneur posted on Twitter that the final straw was an “Interim Health Officer” not allowing the Tesla facility in Fremont, California to open despite the California governor’s updated coronavirus orders. Musk also said the “unelected & ignorant” officer was acting contrary to the President, Constitutional freedoms, and common sense and that he planned to move the company’s headquarters out of California.
Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be dependen on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.

Tesla filed a lawsuit on Saturday, referring to the actions of Alameda County as a “power grab.” The Alameda County health officer, Erica Pan, said on Friday that the company was working with the county but was not cleared to reopen the facility.
Musk also tweeted,
“Tesla knows far more about what needs to be done to be safe through our Tesla China factory experience than an (unelected) interim junior official in Alameda County.“
