Bagged Salad Recall for Midwestern States After Cyclospora Outbreak

The FDA, along with the CDC and state and local partners are investigating an outbreak of Cyclospora infections spanning multiple states linked to ALDI, Hy-Vee, and Jewel-Osco grocery store brand “garden salads” containing iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, and carrots.

Consumers should not eat, and restaurants and retailers should not sell or serve recalledExternal Link Disclaimer Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salad, recalledExternal Link Disclaimer Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Brand Garden Salad, or recalledExternal Link Disclaimer ALDI Little Salad Bar Brand Garden salad.

The Hy-Vee Brand Garden Salads were sold in stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The Jewel-Osco Signature Farms Brand Garden Salads were sold in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. The ALDI Little Salad Bar Brand Garden Salads were sold in  Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

On June 22, 2020, ALDI, in association with Fresh Express Inc., recalledExternal Link Disclaimer ALDI’s 12-ounce Little Salad Bar Brand Garden Salads from stores in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

 
 

FDA continues this investigation and there may be additional retailers and products impacted by this outbreak.

 
 

FDA is working with retailers to ensure the potentially adulterated products are effectively removed from the market place. As this outbreak investigation continues, the FDA will continue to provide additional updates to this advisory.
