Recently, the Daily Advertiser ranked the Top 5 LSU Football Coaches of All Time. A quick look at the list shows Ed Orgeron at number one, followed by Les Miles, Nick Saban, Charlie McClendon, and Paul Dietzel.
Absent from the list is Gerry DiNardo, and one may forget that LSU Football was in shambles at the time he took over the program. Imagine Tiger Nation actually being excited about going to Shreveport for the Independence Bowl.
Ironically, the coach the Tigers faced in the 1996 bowl was Nick Saban, who would take the program to new heights in the early 2000s before departing for an unfortunate run in the NFL. Saban ends up at Alabama, LSU gets Les Miles, then Orgeron and the bar is set.
