College Football Video Games Coming Back to EA Sports

EA Sports says College Football video games will return.

Due to legal issues surrounding the game’s use of player likenesses, EA Sports has not released a college football video game since NCAA Football 2014.  On Tuesday (2/2/2021), the company announced on Twitter that the game will return.

While the return date has not been determined, Daryl Holt, EA Sports vice president and general manager says the game will be back at some point.  Current NCAA rules prohibit athletes from selling their NIL rights while in college, but the company plans to proceed with rosters that don’t use the names or likenesses of real players.  Holt said that EA Sports will monitor the NIL discussion.

“We’ll just keep tabs on everything as it develops, and we’ll be ready,” Holt said. “That won’t be a problem for us. But it’s really, that’s not an answer for us right now to decide. We’re as much passengers as anyone else.

“So we make sure we deliver what our college football game players would want in a game. And that starts with just a very immersive experience, and there’s lots of things we can do to bring the true college game play and game day to the virtual world.”
