CJ’s Bio

What do you love about music?

Everything! I was talking to an old classmate of mine a few years ago and she says to me, “What would we do without music?” My response was, “I don’t want to even think about it.” My mother had the radio on each morning before she put on the coffee and it stayed on until bedtime. Music was always in the background of my life, without it, I’m lost.

What do you like about being on the radio?

I received my first record player when I was only 2 years old. I’m sure it was shortly after that, that I started introing records. Radio is the only job I’ve ever wanted to do. I’ve been very blessed to have had my dream job my entire life. The connection radio continues to allow within local communities is unparalleled by any other medium in the world. I love that.

Being on the air at Big 102.1 is a different kind of job. What’s it like to have such an unusual job where you play music at work?

Actually, not playing music for a living would be unusual to me. I’ve been on the air since I was 16 years old. Getting up and driving to work every morning to do anything else wouldn’t feel right to me. However, we are so busy in the studio, we hardly ever get a chance to listen to the music playing.

Who is your all-time favorite singer?

Elvis Presley.

What do you think makes being on the air in Lafayette so different than any other part of the state?

Folks here in Acadiana are the most atypical people in the entire world. God, love of family, caring for others and the anticipation of the next good-time is woven into the fabric of our culture. How many other radio markets get to talk about boudin regularly? None. The “local” radio stations in Acadiana are unique because the people who listen to them are as well.

BIG 102.1 makes a big deal out of playing such a variety of superstar artists and different kinds of songs, how do you feel about playing so much?

Consumers of music demand more of it and with less interruption. As broadcasters, we understand and try to deliver. BIG 102.1 plays more music than any other popular radio station in Acadiana. Sprinkle in local information, pop culture and fun…and we believe we have the recipe to satisfy any music connoisseur anywhere in the world.

When you are on the air, how do you make it special for someone just tuning in to Big 102.1?

People love to laugh. In this crazy world, we live in, sometimes it’s hard to find something to make us smile. My number one goal is to put smiles on our listener’s faces. People will always remember how you made them “feel”. I hope I’m remembered for being the guy who delivered happy smiles.
