The drug tirzepatide, also known as Mounjaro, has been approved for use on the NHS in the UK. The drug has been shown to promote significant weight loss in patients elsewhere in the world. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) authorized tirzepatide for weight management in adults with a BMI over 30. This is the third weight-loss jab to be approved in the UK, following Wegovy and Saxenda. Further approvals are needed before the drug can be covered by the NHS, and a launch date has not yet been confirmed.
