McDonald’s has decided to end its two-year test of AI-powered drive-thru ordering, removing IBM technology from over 100 restaurants by the end of July. The company will no longer use automated order taking (AOT) from IBM but is exploring other voice ordering solutions. McDonald’s aims to streamline operations and potentially reduce the need for staff by automating drive-thru orders. IBM will continue to work with other fast-food chains on AOT technology, with several already testing or using it at their drive-thru locations.
