Meta is ending its fact-checking program and lifting restrictions on speech to “restore free expression” across Facebook, Instagram, and Meta platforms. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the current content moderation practices have “gone too far” and will be replaced with a Community Notes model similar to X. Meta’s chief global affairs officer, Joel Kaplan, explained that the company is changing its content moderation rules to allow more discourse on sensitive topics and reduce mistakes made by automated systems. The changes come as Meta aims to work with the incoming Trump administration to promote free expression and American business.
