McDonald’s will resume selling Quarter Pounders at affected restaurants without slivered onions after ruling out beef patties as the source of an E. coli outbreak that killed one person and sickened at least 75 others across 13 states. The U.S. FDA believes slivered onions from a single supplier are the likely source of contamination. McDonald’s confirmed Taylor Farms as the supplier of the onions and has stopped sourcing from their Colorado Springs facility indefinitely. The outbreak involved E. coli 0157:H7 infections, with symptoms including fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration. Other fast-food restaurants also pulled onions from menus in certain areas as a precaution.
