Yale University will offer a new course next year titled “Beyoncé Makes History: Black Radical Tradition, Culture, Theory & Politics Through Music,” focusing on Beyoncé’s impact on social and political ideologies. African American Studies Professor Daphne Brooks will use Beyoncé’s music as a portal to explore Black intellectuals and their philosophies. Beyoncé’s work has been praised for elevating awareness of grassroots movements like Black Lives Matter and Black feminist commentary. The course is expected to be popular, but students shouldn’t expect to see Beyoncé in person.
