Call for submissions from K-12 teachers! $1,000 prize for selected proposal!The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) is thrilled to announce the launch of its new website, 64Parishes.org. Since 1971, LEH has partnered with communities, institutions, and individuals to explore Louisiana’s past, reflect on our present, and imagine our future. LEH began publishing a quarterly magazine,Louisiana Cultural Vistas, in 1990. In 2008, LEH launched KnowLA, the online encyclopedia of Louisiana. The LEH has consolidated these efforts under a new banner: 64 Parishes, to deliver content that reflects the partnerships, programs, and mission of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
To highlight the LEH’s history of strong educational programming, Acadiana Center for the Arts has partnered with the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities to engage educators from across the state in developing cross-curricular educational tools for the classroom.
Here’s how it works:
Acadiana Center for the Arts and the LEH want to hear teachers’ ideas on how the study of a Louisiana musical legend can be incorporated into classroom curricula. We are announcing a contest for teachers aimed at showcasing the very best classroom tools for teaching Louisiana’s culture to students around the state.
Acadiana Center for the Arts has nominated Nathan Williams, Jr. to be the focus of study for this project. We invite teachers to submit a proposal that explores this artist’s life and work and that connects to the curriculum. Art, history, math, science or music—we believe that the humanities can be applied across all areas of study to draw personal connections and foster critical thinking skills in the classroom.
The winning teacher from each region will receive a $1,000 prize and will also be invited to help develop a short educational video and lesson plan to be hosted on64parishes.org. We hope that you join us in this fantastic new initiative.
