Lafayette Public Library and Lafayette Science Museum have partnered for a second year to host Lafayette Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, March 30, 2019. The family-friendly event is FREE to attend.
“Maker Faire is a gathering of curious people who enjoy learning new things and love sharing what they can do and make through hands-on, interactive demonstrations,” said Amy Wander, outreach librarian at Lafayette Public Library and Maker Faire Producer. “Our Makers will be set up at booths throughout the museum, and they include science-enthusiasts, artists, inventors, crafters, artisans, robotics teams, metalsmiths, musicians and more.”
“We are excited to really wow our attendees this year with new and interesting Makers and hands-on workshops,” said Kevin Krantz, Lafayette Science Museum Director. “Maker Faire is part science fair, part festival. It’s a unique concept that showcases science, technology, art and craftsmanship in a fun and exciting way.”
Makers will be set up at booths throughout the museum and outside along Congress Street between Jefferson and Polk Streets. Makers will feature a mixture of hands-on activities, demonstrations, performances and hand-made items for sale.
Workshops held in LSM’s classrooms will include “Learn to Solder” with Lafayette Public Library and “Build a Pom Pom Launcher” with Designing Women of Acadiana and “Learn to Secondline” with Hamilton Academy of the Arts. Outdoor activities will include power wheels racing, bicycle maintenance and repair, blacksmith demonstrations, whirlybird making with Lafayette Public Library, fire dancers, drummers and more.
