The Monterey Cypress tree lived nearly a century in La Jolla, California, where Theodore Seuss Geisel once lived. It’s said to have inspired his design of the ‘truffula’ tree in the children’s book. The environmentalist story was about a creature who defended trees and their inhabitants from corporate greed. The San Diego Parks and Recreation Department plan to salvage the large trunk and re purpose it.
“Most of the tree was removed Friday and the remaining large trunk was expected to be removed later. The city will be looking at planting a replacement in the area.” – Tim Graham, San Diego Parks and Recreation Department
