Public Defender Michael Gregory was ordered to pay a hundred dollar fine and is banned from using a cellphone in the courthouse for six months. Gregory was held in contempt of court last Friday morning by 15th Judicial Court Judge Marilyn Castle. Castle earlier this month had ordered a defendant’s mouth taped shut for disrupting his sentencing hearing. Gregory filmed the exchange between the Judge and defendant and was held in contempt of court and ordered to destroy all copies of the video.
Cellphones are banned from courthouses in Louisiana except by officers of the court, which includes attorneys. But filming, broadcasting or photographing inside a courtroom is prohibited.
