The 2020 Miss Louisiana Pageant was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak this year, but a new queen will still be crowned.
The Miss American Organization canceled all events due to the coronavirus pandemic and gave queens the option to continue their contracts for another year. Meagan Crews, Miss Louisiana 2019 decided not to return as queen. She’ll be attending the University of Kentucky in the fall.
The vacancy allows last year’s runner up, Courtney Hammons to fulfill the role of Miss Louisiana 2020. In a post on Facebook, Hammons shared her excitement to represent the state.
“The secret is out!!!! I am BURSTING with excitement and eager to announce I will be serving my state as Miss Louisiana 2020! (No one pinch me!) This has been a dream of mine for almost 10 years now, and I am honestly speechless to have been afforded this opportunity. Overjoyed, grateful, and humbled will hopefully begin to describe how I’m feeling. While it is a little bittersweet I will not have the opportunity to compete in Miss America, I understand I will now have MORE time to devote to serving Louisiana.
Last year, when Meagan Crews and I were the last two standing on the Miss Louisiana stage, I would have never believed I would become Miss Louisiana in this way: during a pandemic with so much uncertainty. However, I realize the UNIQUE opportunity I’ve been given to serve my state during the most challenging year of my lifetime. Needless to say, I am READY to be a servant-leader this year. I am EXCITED to represent EVERY Louisianan. I am ENCOURAGED because, let’s be honest, the Lord is FAITHFUL! The Lord’s timing is perfect, and He knows the desire of your heart. Just one week ago, I didn’t know what this year was going to look like for me. I didn’t know which doors were going to open…BUT GOD! He knows. Trust and have faith He is in control!
Thank you EVERYONE who have supported and encouraged me while pursuing this dream. Please know I stand with you in supporting your own dreams. Thank you to the Miss Louisiana board for this opportunity. Thank you, Meagan, for being a dear friend for years. You have served the Miss LA Org beautifully. I am excited for your next adventure in Louisville, and I am proud to be your friend and sister!
JOIN US on TUESDAY JUNE 16th at 3 PM at the Monroe Civic Center’s W.L. “Jack” Howard Theater Lobby as Meagan will crown me Miss Louisiana 2020 (!!!!!!!!) “
