Southern Screen has partnered with the National Writing Project of Acadiana and The Current to open submissions for an inaugural short fiction writing competition. Submissions will be accepted through Thursday, October 6. Top 10 Finalists will be announced Tuesday, November 1. The winner will be announced at the Southern Screen Festival the weekend of November 10-13 (exact day and time TBA) at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette, LA.
Writers 18+ in age are invited to participate in short fiction writing competition themed “Celebration and the South.” Submissions should be in prose, can be in any genre, and should not exceed 1,500 words. A $10 entry fee will be required for all submissions. The Top 10 finalists will be announced prior to the festival and the winner will be announced the evening of the event as part of the Southern Screen Festival. Additionally, the winning piece will be read by a special guest of Southern Screen and will appear in The Current, Acadiana’s online news publication. The winner will also receive a pass for the remainder of the festival.
