In celebration of National Parks &
Recreation Month, Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Parks &
Recreation Department is partnering with Basin Arts, to present FAMILY
FUN DAY at Girard Park on Saturday July 25, 9:00am - 12:00pm.
This FREE event will give families a fun and safe way to get outside
and get moving. Basin Arts has curated a Movement Arts Challenge with
a circuit of dance and fitness activities presented by Basin Dance
Collective, Stretch-N-Grow, Kabuki Dancers, Fire Expressions,
Lafayette School of Performing Arts, and Moriah Istre. Family units
will stick together as they move throughout Girard Park to learn and
explore different dance styles, from zydeco dance to aerial arts to
breakin' to creative movement, ballet and more! The movement challenge
takes place from 9:00am -11:00am and check-in is on a rolling basis.
Inside the recreation center, visitors can observe some classic
recreation classes that parks and recreation offers: Karate at 9:00am,
Fencing at 10:00am, and Zumba at 11:00am. Also, the Lafayette Public
Library's Bookmobile Go Go Biblio will be on site for all your summer
reading needs.
All COVID safety protocols will be enforced. All outdoor activities
will be offered in small groups with safe social distancing and masks
are strongly encouraged even with social distance. Masks are required
to go into the recreation center with a 50 person capacity when
indoors. If you’re planning to attend, please register for a free
Family Pass via Eventbrite. All activities will happen on a rolling
basis and arrival anytime between 9:00-10:00am is encouraged.
