This year, Veteran’s Day falls on a Sunday. The city of Carencro will host its annual Carencro Veteran’s Memorial and Patriotic Celebration on Saturday, November 10th, at the Carencro Veterans Memorial in downtown Carencro. The memorial event will be held at 10 am sharp and the Patriotic Celebration vendors will open at 9 am before and after the actual memorial program.
Saturday, November 10th:
9 am-Arts & Craft vendor booths will open. The set up for the vendor booths will begin at 8 am. One can find original works of art, homemade jams, baked goods, soaps, and other Louisiana made and grown items.
9 am-Art walk for area students is a young artist series showcasing the local schools with a theme of “Salute to Our Troops.” The art walk includes the display of art, music, poetry, etc. Local artists and student art, from our local schools, will be located behind Carencro City Hall and at various business locations in the downtown area.
10 am-Carencro Veterans Memorial Program will begin at 10 am sharp. A wonderful presentation that honors all branches of the United States Military. Special guests are Vietnam War Veterans. Guest speaker will be Lee Verret. Veteran and member of the Carencro Police Department, Ryan Munnerlyn, will list the names all Vietnam service members who passed away from Lafayette Parish during the war.
11:15 am-Live Patriotic Music and refreshments under the new CARENCRO PATRIOTS PAVILION located directly behind Carencro City Hall. Vendor booths will also be reopening directly after the Carencro Veterans Memorial Program.
Again, area 8th graders participated in a Carencro Veteran’s Day Essay contest. In September, essay coordinator, Stacey Judice, and veteran, Lincoln Savoie, traveled to Carencro Middle, Carencro Catholic, and St. Ignatius to speak to the students on submitting essays. The top ten submissions will receive recognition at the Carencro Veteran’s Day program and the top three will be awarded a monetary prize. Next month, look for the top three essays to be printed in the November issue of the Community Chronicles.
All are invited to join in honoring United States Veterans on this very special day. The event location can be found after typing Carencro City Hall at 210 East St. Peter on your GPS.
