Lafayette Public Library Starts the Summer with a Community Reading Challenge. The Lafayette Public Library is challenging you, your family, and friends to help us reach our summer community goal of 3 million minutes read! This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme, Imagine, encourages you to explore the world of fantasy, folk tales, fairy tales, myths, and other titles that foster imagination.
Read & Record:
Read 10 minutes a day for a total of 600 minutes (or 10 hours) between June 1 and July 31. Audiobooks and reading to a non-reader count too. You’ll be able to pick up a paper reading log inside of this summer’s BookTalk Online Resource Guide or log online beginning June 1. Register now by visiting or calling any library location or online at lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org.
Earn Badges:
The more minutes you read and the more activities you complete, the more badges you can earn. For a full list of activities to earn badges, visit lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org.
Redeem:
Once you’ve read 600 minutes, stop by the library to claim your prize and be entered for a grand prize drawing. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have to win! Keep reading and recording to help us reach our community goal by the end of summer! *Prize distribution will begin July 1.
Prize sponsors include Broussard & David, Chick-fil-A, La Madeleine, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Super 1 Foods, Tropical Smoothie, and more. The Summer Virtual Performance series is sponsored by the Friends of the Lafayette Public Library.
Digital Programming:
This year, our programs will be a little different. You will be able to participate virtually from the comfort of your own home! Visit lafayettepubliclibrary.org as well as our Facebook page for updates and information about virtual book clubs, summer performers, crafts, and much more.
Light reading over the summer is a fun and easy way for students to prevent a decline in reading achievement. With our Summer Reading Challenge, children can discover learning activities, teens can strengthen reading skills, and adults can explore great books. We look forward to seeing what you can Imagine!
