“Light Up” Someone’s Life by Donating Blood at
SLEMCO’s Annual Meeting
Help fill the void of a 20% decline in summer blood donations
LAFAYETTE, LA— United Blood Services and SLEMCO team up each year for Acadiana’s largest blood drive! Last year a record breaking 377 pints of blood were drawn to help save the lives of people throughout Acadiana. The summer months see a 20% or more decline in blood donations; however hospitals experience an increase in blood usage. SLEMCO’s annual meeting blood drive helps fill the void of this donation decline.
Donate blood at the Cajundome Convention Center this Saturday, June 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All donors will receive a “Hot & Spicy” t-shirt, a $25 Amazon gift card through points in the online rewards store and a SLEMCO mountable lantern. EARLY BIRD SPECIAL: If you donate between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. you will be entered to win a $100 Walmart Gift card. All donors will be entered to win a 32” Roku Smart LED TV. One lucky SLEMCO donor will be chosen as a finalist for a Dream Vacation, valued at up to $6,000! Visit UnitedBloodServices.org/LA for more information. All items are while supplies last, and distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
All blood types are always needed, however, donations from donors with O negative type blood, which is the universal blood type and is most transfused in trauma situations, is in high demand year round.
Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate. It’s at www.UnitedBloodServices.org.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
