Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated, “The next boys Kops & Kids hunting/fishing and camping adventure is scheduled for September 15th to August 16th 2018.” The camp is located in St. Landry Parish with sleeping accommodations and are chaperoned by full time law enforcement officers. The Kops & Kids outdoor activities program is designed to allow children to have an opportunity to experience outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing free of charge.
The program is an effort to touch the lives of children between the ages of 9 and 13, the formative years, and create an atmosphere of trust between the youths and law enforcement. The ultimate gold is to mentor youths in order that they help themselves complete their education and achieve economic self-sufficiency, and meaningful value to society. The children develop positive self-esteem and clarify their values on which to build a successful life.
Any child who is 9 thru 13 is eligible. To refer a child for a Kops & Kids adventure weekend, contact Debbie Venable at (337) 948- 6844 and make arrangements to either pick up an application from her or go online at slpsheriff.com and follow the links to Kops & Kids Outdoor Sporting Activities. Applications must be complete and brought to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Fleet Office at West Landry Street in Opelousas. Sheriff Guidroz and/or members of his staff will review applications and determine if the application is accepted.
Sheriff Guidroz added, “This will be our 29th camp that we have sponsored, plans are underway for the next Kops and Kids boys camp in the near future.”
