The Halloween Art & Nature Festival is a one-day free event inviting all children and families to celebrate Halloween and Louisiana’s special natural surroundings, through art, music, food and science.
This year, the festival’s theme will be “Plants versus Zombies” (after the popular video game) and it will include all sorts of spooktacular fun Halloween art and craft educational activities such as:
- African Ritualistic Artifacts Imbued with Spiritual Power exhibition
- Morphing tree monster sculpture with dead tree ‘body parts’ moved by festival participants
- Nature Morte Iris Painting and Live Planting workshop
- Zombie Ant Sculptures from Recycled Material demo
- Native American Willow Structure workshop, bringing ‘dead’ branches back to life to create a living building
- Zombie Cells Bioart workshop using microscopy to search and image living cells from dead tissue
- It’s Alive! Resurrection Fern spore printing demonstration
- Papier-mâché Brain Sculpture demonstration
- Traiteur Medicinal Plant walk
- Traditional Cane Basket Making
- Spine-tingling Story Telling in French and English
- DIY Costume workshop using recycled/up-cycled materials
