Lafayette Genealogical Society monthly meeting will be Thursday, May 16, 2024 beginning at 6:00p.m., Lafayette Public Library, Southside Branch, 6101 Johnston St., Lafayette, LA. Guest speaker is Barry Jean Ancelet, Professor Emeritus and Research Fellow at ULL. He has published papers, articles and books on Cajun/Creole cultures, contributed to documentary films, co-founded Lafayette’s Festivals Acadiens et Creoles in 1974, and hosted a weekly radio show from the Liberty Theater in Eunice, LA. He will be speaking on the Ancelet family as an example of French Immigration to Louisiana and focusing on the importance of the family stories that make genealogy come alive.
