The Louisiana Ghostbusters are here to rid the Donor Center of any ghosts that might prevent you from donating this summer. By helping to bust summer blood shortages, the blood donors and the Louisiana Ghostbusters can help fill the void of over a 20% decrease in donations experienced during the summer months.
Join us at the donor center for a fun filled day for the whole family! Take your picture in front of the Ghostbuster truck and with the Louisiana Ghostbusters themselves. (Please bring your own camera for pictures.) The original Ghostbusters film will be playing for kids in the training room while parents are able to donate.
LA Ghostbuster Donor Day will take place at the donor center in Lafayette located at 1503 Bertrand Drive this Saturday, June 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Each donor will receive a “Summer Donor” T-shirt, while supplies last and are entered to win a Dream Vacation valued up to $6,000. As always, all blood types are needed. However, United Blood Services is always in need of type O negative red cells. Type O negative blood is the only type that can safely be given to patients of all blood types. Inquire about donating plasma and platelets.
Donors can also visit www.UnitedBloodServices.org the day of their donation and click on the “Health History Questionnaire”. This allows donors to complete the interview portion of their donation on-line, in the privacy of their home or office. Make sure to print your “Fast track donation ticket” and bring it with you to your donation. The questionnaire must be completed on the same day that you donate.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. Donors also earn points in our “Hero in Me” online rewards store.
