On September 10, the Festival of Words hosts a presentation of new, original works. Words for You is the culmination of a fundraiser in which people commissioned writers to create personalized poems, stories and songs. On Saturday, Sept. 10, you can attend the first live Words for You event at the Lafayette Main Library. It takes place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Start out the September Artwalk by taking in fresh poems and songs before strolling downtown that evening.
Featured presenters include: Megan Breaux, Liz Burk, Dominick Cross, Carly and Kelley Courville, Toby Daspit, Cornelius Eady, Charles Claudel Garrett I, Jessica Goff, Martha Garner, Clemonce Heard, Shya Hebert, Sophia Hebert, Kathryn Krotzer Laborde, Clare L Martin, Phyllis McLaughlin Nauman, Bonny McDonald, James McDowell, Hailey Menard, Natalie Parker-Lawrence, Valentine Pierce, Peg Ramier, Mona Lisa Saloy (Louisiana Poet Laureate), Richa Dinesh Sharma, Tyler Robert Sheldon, Olan Thibodeaux, Ted Thibodeaux, and Suzanne Wiltz. Out-of-area authors will perform remotely.
Funds raised contribute to the 15thth annual Festival of Words. The Festival of Words brings established authors from all over the world to Acadiana to give public readings, writing workshops in community centers and public schools during the first week of November. These funds will help to ensure the continued expansion and success of these programs. This year’s festival will feature poets Clemonce Heard and Ashley M. Jones, and novelist John McNally.
