Renee’s Q&A

What do you love about music?

Music to me is like breathing… I am sustained by it. I have a 24/7 Jukebox in my head- I feel and think a song in almost every mood or situation. I love that I am around music all the time.  Come with me.  It’s fun.

What do you like about being on the radio?

I love how Big 102.1 gets involved with this community. This radio station is about contributing to the actual quality of life in Acadiana, is truly an honor.  It’s means more to us than people might think.  We represent people in our hometown who are passionate about music and life.  We make that happen on radio every morning and every day.

Being on the air at Big 102.1 is a different kind of job.  What’s it like to have such an unusual job where you play music at work?

There is a certain “joie de vie” that can only come from music.  Playing that music on radio?  That elevates everything even more because what we do is in the air of Acadiana.  Sharing those experiences with our listeners and the excitement of enjoying it with them is a great joy.  Listeners get up craving music, living real life.  It’s special to be able to do this job here.  When you listen to Big 102.1, I hope you know I thank you for the privilege every day.

Who is your all-time favorite singer?

How am I supposed to answer that question?  I can’t even narrow to 20, much less 1.  I love Queen and Earth, Wind & Fire, and I can’t imagine my life growing up without Sly & The Family Stone and The Beatles.  I just like a wide variety of music.  It’s in my personality.  That’s one of the reasons I like what we do on Big 102.1. There’s a lot of flavor in being Big.

What do you think makes being on the air in Lafayette so different than any other part of the state?

It’s very special knowing that your hometown is in one of the most exciting regions in the world. I think it is the most exciting region.  And it’s home.  Our culture is celebrated around the globe; Cajun Food is the standard by which world class chefs are measured; we have our own language and I really love that we are nearly all connected through faith, family and community. The people here have the unique ability to be both proud and humble. To be on the air at Big 102.1 and to represent the musical emotion of this region with such a different kind of radio station, is very meaningful to me.

Big 102.1 makes a big deal out of playing such a rich variety of superstar artists and different kinds of songs, how do you feel about playing so much music on the air in Lafayette?

It’s exciting that every song we play is someone’s favorite, it brings back a great memory or just brings on a smile.  We are adding joy and energy to each day, and I love that. Now we’ve added these hour long commercial free playlists all day.  It’s like lighting the fuse!  Join me on the radio anytime.  We’ll make it fun.

When you are on the air, how do you make it special for someone just tuning in to Big 102.1?

When I was very young, my mother would sometimes take out the good dishes and cook an elaborate meal, like you would for company. When we realized that it was just for us, we felt very special and appreciated. During The Big Morning Show, Fast and I do everything we can to make each day a special occasion. Whether you’re a regular member of the family or it’s your first visit, there is always room at our table. I guess that’s why we’re blessed to have such a Big happy family, that gets bigger every day.
